Overview

Are you eager to make a real and lasting contribution to an area of national priority for Australia? Are you interested in responding to society’s big challenges, including climate change, pollution, water management, and sustainable agriculture? Would you like to upskill with a short, professional online course from Australia’s top university?

The Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management (6 months full-time, or part-time equivalent) is an online degree that caters to a diverse range of domestic students who are seeking to upskill or retrain. This includes policymakers working in high-level government and non-government organisations, policy officers and middle managers in Australian government and industry, and university graduates with limited work experience seeking to enhance their qualifications in a competitive employment environment.

You will gain a better understanding of current issues and approaches to environmental management, learn about current regulatory and policy frameworks in the Australian and international context, and enhance your ability to contribute to the governance of environmental sustainability and natural disasters.

Career opportunities

When you complete the Graduate Certificate of Environmental Management, a wide range of local and international employment pathways may open up to you as you upskill or retrain in this area of national priority.

Graduates from Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University (ANU) have taken up senior policy roles with local, state, and federal government. Others have gone on to influential positions with global development institutions, environmental agencies, non-government organisations, and social enterprises.

Others still have elected to specialise in the private sector, where they are guiding sustainability strategies within large-scale mining and agriculture companies.
