Why study this program?

The Master of Public Administration (1.5 years full-time, or part-time equivalent) is an effective way to jump-start your leadership and management career in public administration. 

Taught by internationally renowned researchers and teachers at The Australian National University (ANU), you will learn essential skills in program implementation and public management. 

Drawing on the skills and expertise at the Crawford School of Public Policy, this program is designed for future leaders and managers of public organisations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

With a focus on key disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives on public administration, management and governance – clustered in terms of people and finance, law and regulation, policy systems, and international governance – you will develop an in-depth understanding of the complexities of organising public action.

The learning experience

The Crawford School of Public Policy prides itself on our excellence and commitment to your learning and professional development. Our interactive classes facilitate open, safe, and robust discussion and debate. Whether studying online or face to face, you will benefit from actively participating in our inclusive learning experience.  Real-time interaction, discussion and debate between our students and with convenors is a central part of the learning experience. Attendance at interactive classes is a key part of the learning design for both on-campus and online students. 

Our teaching staff are leaders in their respective areas of expertise. They bring this knowledge and expertise to the classroom to inspire, challenge and support you as you carve your professional and personal pathway.  Our work integrated learning program complements our expertise and provides you with an opportunity to be immersed in an organization and gain valuable real world policy expertise whilst studying. 

You can benefit from our specialised academic skills advisers by attending workshops or booking individual consultations. The team provides focused support and resources to help you develop and strengthen their academic and research skills, preparing you for success and graduation.   

You will complete a combination of compulsory and elective courses to tailor their program to meet your professional goals.  

 

Scholarships

The Crawford School of Public Policy offers the Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP). This scholarship is available to citizens of eligible developing countries to undertake study at universities renowned for their development research and teaching in key development areas.

The Australian National University (ANU) offers a wide range of scholarships to you to assist with the cost of their studies.  

Eligibility to apply for ANU scholarships varies depending on the specifics of the scholarship and can be categorised by the type of student you are. Specific scholarship application process information is included in the relevant scholarship listing.

Graduate Certificate of Public Management

For those unable to commit to the full 1.5 year (full-time) program, The Graduate Certificate of Public Management, Graduate Certificate of Public Policy and Graduate Certificate of Policy Design and Analysis are pathway options for this degree.

This 24-unit (6 months, full-time) certificate provides an introduction to the immersive Master experience, as well as an option for an early exit.

These graduate certificate options (6 months full-time, or part-time equivalent) are designed for students seeking to start or advance their careers in public policy, public management, public administration and leadership.

These programs, offered by The Australian National University's (ANU) Crawford School of Public Policy, combines the theoretical and practical expertise of leading academics.
