The Bachelor of International Security Studies (3 years full-time, part-time equivalent) will develop your analytical skills and understanding and knowledge of the security challenges facing our world with a particular focus on the Asia-Pacific region. You will delve into the contemporary security threats facing nations, international organisations and businesses around the world. This includes the threat of military power, civil war, terrorism, cybercrime, environmental degradation and food security.

The learning experience

The Bachelor of International Security Studies allows you to choose from a range of unique and relevant subjects, including International Terrorism, Nuclear Politics in Asia, Natural Resource Conflicts and many more.

This program is offered by the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, Australia’s foremost centre for strategic and security studies. You will learn from world-renowned scholars at The Australian National University (ANU), many of whom are former diplomats, journalists and policymakers so you gain strong research skills with the added advantage of practical know-how.

Studying at ANU gives you proximity to federal government, embassies and international agencies based in Canberra, providing you access to the engine room of international affairs and security policy.

The Bachelor of International Security Studies gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Asia-Pacific region with dedicated in-country study programs.
